Girls’ First Communion dresses were more sophisticated and less frilly.  The trend is to use more exquisite fabric for communion dresses, such as beautiful silks and taffetas. Detailing on the bodice or waistline is simple, yet classic. Gone is the excessive lace and ruffles.  A-line dresses for communion have gained popularity, along side the traditional communion dress with a full skirt. We also saw two-piece dress sets that are a bit less formal, yet more versatile, as the dress set can be worn for another special occasion.  Basic suits in traditional white or navy blue were still the choice clothing for a boy’s First Communion. This communion look is completed with a white dress shirt.

Stripe Season is Here

Stripes continue to be a perennial favorite in children’s spring clothing and summer beach wear. Horizontal stripes on seersucker fabric was especially popular.

Children’s clothes with nautical cuts made a come back this year.  Nautical style collars, braid detailing, or nautical appliqués were featured on many clothing styles.  Stripes mixed with polka dots appeared on more casual kids clothes.  The favorite nautical colors shown were red, white, and blue. Also, nautical inspired plaids were popular for boy’s shirts.

Tropical floral prints created a tropical paradise on the floors of the fashion shows. Prints with island scenes are also popular on kid’s clothes. Safari style details and garment design continued to show up this year in childrenswear, especially in boys shirts and pants. Hawaiian print shirts were also featured for boys.

Tiny Flowers for Tiny Tots

Small flower prints made a comeback in little girls dresses. Lace edging and ruffles create a sweet look in a dress for a baby or toddler. Retro flower, fruit or cherry patterns create a festive look for a picnic or outdoor party.

Toile goes Beyond Linens

Toile, the 18^th Century French fabric, is becoming popular again in bedding and upholstery.  Trendy childrens clothing designers have started to use the fabric in girls clothing designs. The most popular patterns are black, blue or red floral print on an ivory linen background.
