Mad for Plaid

Plaid prints were everywhere, in girls’ skirts, pants and jackets, as well as boys shirts. Burberry and Tartan plaids, more popular than ever, are in khaki and more trendy color combinations such as yellow and olive green, and orange and brown.

Snakeskin prints appeared on shirts and pants, while leopard and zebra prints where on girls’ fashion accessories such as handbags and boots.  Girls’ coats and vests reflected a western motif with cow print patterns.  Bouclé, mohair, and textured knits for girls’ dresses and sweaters reflected style and warmth for fall.

Vibrant, Hot Colors

Most of the colors for girls’ clothing this season were vibrant. Pink and its many variations, such as raspberry, fuchsia, and rose, as well as orange and all shades of lavender, dominated girls clothing. The only subdued clothing colors were brown and loden green for tailored girls clothing. Meanwhile, boys clothing colors were more classic choices such as navy blue, hunter green and khaki, in addition to berry red.

Holiday is Dress Up Time

In keeping with the dress-up theme, holiday clothing seemed more dressy than usual.  Velvets, silks and satins were shown in girls dresses and pants sets.  Boys dress shirt options went beyond the plain, button-down variety: many plaids were shown. Vests are also making a comeback for boys.

Camouflage is Not Hiding

Still as popular as last year, camouflage clothing continued to show up for boys and girls, in pants and vests. Colors included not only the standard green and khaki, but also orange, blue and gray.  Kids styles are trimmer and less sloppy.  Boys’ cargo pants are less baggy this year.
