Celebrate the Fourth of July all Summer Long!

In our town, we celebrate the Fourth of July with a parade followed by family activities such as relay races for children and hot air balloon rides.  Everyone in town is filled with pride and a sense of belonging. Wouldn’t it be great to keep that feeling alive all summer long? Here are some suggestions to do just that.

Visit the Birthplace of the Declaration of Independence.

We are fortunate to live close to Philadelphia, and often visit Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell.  If you can't make the trip, the National Park Service has some information that your kids will enjoy about these locations:

Learn more about the Declaration of Independence and our founding fathers. The complete text of the declaration and the names of the signers can be found at the Indiana University School of Law website:

Yummy!

What would the Fourth be without food? And lots of it!  Picnics on the 4th and throughout the summer are great ways to connect with family and friends.

Visit the Food Network site for some holiday goodies:

Visit your local fireworks display and attend band concerts.

Enjoy the fireworks and music with your children.  I have always loved the fireworks finale, especially when the band is playing Sousa’s “The Stars and Stripes Forever”. Enjoy this holiday classic and learn more about the patriotic music of John Philip Sousa, courtesy of the Dallas Wind Symphony:

Fun for the whole Family!

Take in a baseball game or a trip to the seashore. Touring can include a trip to historic lighthouses, providing children with an interesting look back in time.

Be Safe.

Remember to keep your children and family safe this Fourth of July. Visit the U.S. Fire Administration website to learn more about celebrating with fireworks safety:

Also keep your pets safe during the festivities. Not only are many animals afraid of the loud noises of fireworks, but also many celebration materials are potentially harmful or toxic to them. Your veterinarian can provide you with more information on preparing your pet for the festivities.

Don’t Forget to Dress your Children Comfy!

Shorts and sun dresses are mandatory for your children this summer.  Visit our kids clothes sale to select perfect boys and girls clothing.
